Varillas: “Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are an example”

After the negative results that accompanied the post-pandemic period, Juan Pablo Varillas managed to raise his head and get closer to the top 100. The Peruvian player has won two Challenger tournaments this year, the first in Biella and the second in Chile , and also reached the quarter-finals at the ATP 250 event in Santiago.

In an exclusive interview with Punto de Break, Varillas explained: “I think I had a very regular season both in terms of performances and results and, therefore, of points.

I had a fantastic year and I hope I can finish it by realizing the goal of my life: to be in the top 100. Without a doubt, it is the dream of every tennis player and I would like to finish 2021 in the top 100. Words of Rune against the ATP? I agree and think like him.

Anyway, I try not to think about it because otherwise I suffer. Logically, there are a lot of players who haven’t had a great season or who simply haven’t played and are still in the top 100, but you need to look ahead and focus on the future.

Varillas: “Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are an example”

Fortunately, I have always had the support of my family. Perhaps, for the first time, I will be able to cover most of the expenses with what I have earned, with the money received from sponsors and with the help of the Peruvian Federation.

Now I can travel with a coach and sometimes add an athletic trainer. Other times we share the athletic trainer with other guys because it’s the same. Introducing yourself to a tournament with a more complete work team allows you to add quality and is a fundamental aspect that can make a difference.”

Varillas finally talked about two of his greatest idols,┬áRoger Federer and Rafael Nadal. He said: “I have followed them all my life. Besides, besides being tennis players, they are fantastic athletes and people. They are an example for all tennis players on and off the court. This is what strikes me most.”

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal should come back on the court for the beginning of the next season, which will start with the Australian swing and the much discussed Australian Open 2022.
