In an interview with the Daily Caller, Louie Gohmert, a representative of the state of Texas, expressed his desire for Novak Djokovic to participate in the last Grand Slam of the season, the US Open 2022.
Gohmert explained: “Novak Djokovic has already overcome war and famine in his lifetime. The Serbian has managed to become one of the greatest tennis players ever, if not the best ever. It would be a shame if he couldn’t play the US Open because of the cold, ruthless, malevolent and scientifically insipid mentality of the Biden administration.”
Nole also received words of support from Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic: “Novak is a great source of inspiration for all of us. I am proud to be Serbian like him. I wish him to further increase his wall and to make all his dreams come true. I don’t know him well, we’ve only talked a couple of times. He complimented me when I arrived at Juve. His mental strength is incredible, as is the way he trains. I hope to meet him again.”
Novak Djokovic and the US swing on hard-courts
Novak Djokovic’s future is once again uncertain. After clinching his seventh Wimbledon title, the former world number 1 does not know if he will be able to fly to the United States for the US Open.
The Serbian phenomenon paid dearly for his choice not to vaccinate against the Coronavirus, not having been able to defend the title at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year. For the same reason, the 35-year-old from Belgrade also had to miss the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells and Miami in the spring.
The triumph at the Championships allowed Nole to forfeit his 21st Major, shortening the gap that separates him from Rafael Nadal in the all-time ranking. Goran Ivanisevic’s player reassembled Nick Kyrgios in the final, imposing himself on the London meadows for the fourth time in a row.
Should he be barred from entering the US, the Djokovic could decide to return directly to the Laver Cup. Novak has already stated that he will not play minor tournaments to collect points.
