Swing for life, big event at La Mandria in Turin

On Sunday 1st May it was the “La Mandria” club in Turin that hosted A swing for life, the first tournament in memory of Rachele Schieroni, friend and supporter of the IEO-MONZINO Foundation. Rachele has always been at the forefront of supporting the European Institute of Oncology. ” More than 53 thousand euros raised.

Rachele passed away last November. Months ago, she had the idea of ​​organizing a charity challenge together with her family, all golf enthusiasts and club members, to raise funds for the foundation to support cancer research.
 
Numerous challengers on the green: from the early hours of the morning 40 teams and 160 players faced the 18 holes of the course that saw the winning team of Fabio Nicolucci, Davide Schieroni, Alessandro Fasano and Cristina Ascheri. Also awarded was an all-pink over 80 team made up of Flora Ferrero, Miranda Tonino Gillio, Antonietta Toselli and Anna Rosa Bosco. It was the first appointment in a series that will be repeated every year to keep Rachel’s memory even more alive by organizing her tournaments in her memory.
 
“I thank all the participants for helping me to carry out this Rachel project. Thank you for passing on her strength, her faith and her love for her life ”said Roberta Schieroni, Rachele’s mother. “We need solidarity and research and today’s initiative will also be used to finance a scholarship for a young researcher who will work in the Fertility and Procreation Unit of the IEO. Rachele would have liked the project, because it concerns the impact of cancer diagnosis in the children of patients. The first results for the next swing for life! ”, Said Dr. Fedro Peccatori, director of Fertility and Procreation of the IEO and Rachele’s doctor.

Thanks to the supporters of “A swing for life”, essential for sponsorship, donations, purchases of holes personalized with your name, the registration fee, the sale of lottery tickets with prizes, an auction with the memorabilia of Francesco and Edoardo Molinari. Between this type of initiative and the dinner at the end of the race, 53,000 euros were collected. The proceeds will go to the Fertility and Procreation Unit in Oncology and the Development Division of New Drugs for Innovative Therapies of the IEO. Rachel was being treated there.
