Stefanos Tsitsipas speaks on facing Alexander Zverev in Rome semifinal

World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas was happy with how he performed against home favorite Jannik Sinner in Rome as he is now looking forward to meeting again Alexander Zverev.

On Friday, Tsitsipas defeated Sinner 7-6 (5) 6-2 to progress into the Rome semifinal.

It was the second meeting of the year between Tsitsipas and Sinner.

Tsitsipas has been absolutely dominant against Sinner this year as he also clinched a straight-set win over the Italian when they met at the Australian Open.

“I am happy things turned out well. It was a great day at the office,” Tsitsipas said in his on-court interview, per the ATP Tour website. “I was able to really step it up in the second set and I think the most important part was that first set tie-break. I really went for it when I had to. I didn’t overthink or hesitate and that paid off in the end.”

Tsitsipas and Zverev to meet for the third time this year

Tsitsipas beat Zverev when they met in Monte Carlo a month ago but the German beat the Greek a week ago in Madrid.

“We have similar game styles but he is one of the most difficult players to play against on the Tour,” Tsitsipas said of facing Zverev “I have a lot of respect for him. He has achieved a lot so far and I try and look up to him with the things he has achieved.”

Zverev also didn’t have problems on Friday as he saw off Cristian Garin in straight sets 7-5 6-2.

“It was a high-level match. At times it wasn’t pretty tennis, but I got the job done and that is the most important thing,” Zverev said in his on-court interview. “I am through to the semi-finals and I am happy about that.”

Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head versus Zverev 7-4.

Tsitsipas was beaten by Zverev in three sets last week and he will certainly be motivated to get a revenge in Rome.
