Rafael Nadal: ‘I’m a fanatic’

BBC pundit Boris Becker has placed the 2008 Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer final at Wimbledon in the category of the 5 best matches in history. After losing to Federer in two consecutive Wimbledon finals, Nadal made a huge impact at The Championships in 2008 after beating the Swiss in a classic final 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7. Federer was attempting to prolong his Wimbledon dominance, but Nadal prevented him from winning a sixth consecutive title at The Championships. The 2008 Wimbledon final is considered by many to be, if not the greatest Grand Slam final in history, then at least one of the greatest Grand Slam finals in history. “What I remember most about the 2008 final is how they were able to play in the dark! It was so dark,” Becker recalled of the 2008 Wimbledon final, according to the BBC. “They would have probably only played one more game, the maximum, then it would have been canceled and we would have had the final on Monday. ‘Roger was the favourite, so it was a big surprise that Rafa won’ to be remembered! “You have these matches that go over time and people remember them 30 or 40 years later. If you think about the five best tennis matches, then it would be one of the five.”

Nadal is having a dream 2022 season

The 22-time Grand Slam champion has talked about his love for soccer and watching Real Madrid play in his book, Rafael Nadal: My Story. Talking about this, he said, “Football was my passion as a child, and remains so today. I can be at a tournament in Australia or Bangkok, and if there is a big Real Madrid game on TV at five in the morning, I’ll wake up to watch it-even, sometimes, if I have a match on later that day. And I’ll build my day’s training program, if need be, around the timing of the games.” Further, he added, “I’m a fanatic. My godfather remembers when I was four years old, how he would show me pictures of the shields of all the teams in the Spanish first division, and-to his amazement-I’d be able to put a name correctly to all of them.” Earlier this year, Real Madrid took on Liverpool in the Champions League final. The match was held at the Stade de France in Paris. The final took place at the same time when the French Open was underway.
