‘Novak Djokovic wants to win 30 Major titles,’ says his coach

Novak Djokovic claimed the first Major title at the 2008 Australian Open, still at 20. The Serb has been one of the players to beat on the most significant tennis scene ever since, standing on 21 Major crowns, just one behind Rafael Nadal. Novak was 15 Major titles behind Roger Federer at the start of 2011. He needed 11 years to match and pass the Swiss, leaving him in third place and continuing his GOAT battle with Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard claimed the opening two Majors of the season at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and the Serb responded at Wimbledon to reduce the gap. Novak secured his seventh Wimbledon crown a few weeks ago.

He now hopes for positive news from the USA about his US Open participation, working hard and wishing to fight for another US Open crown. Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic stated that Novak wants to play for five more years, targeting 30 Major titles as his ultimate goal. Djokovic was eager to raise his level after the quarter-final loss to Rafa at Roland Garros, throwing everything at Wimbledon, where he was the top favorite. Novak trailed two sets to love versus Jannik Sinner in the quarter-final before performing a remarkable comeback to seal the deal in a five-setter and reach the last four. Cameron Norrie claimed the opening set against the favorite before Novak stepped in and grabbed sets two, three and four for a place in the final.

Goran Ivanisevic spoke about Novak Djokovic’s Major wishes.

Djokovic faced the first-time Major finalist Nick Kyrgios and earned a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 victory in three hours. Djokovic started all over after the opening set and defended five out of six break chances to keep the pressure on the other side. He broke Nick for the first time in a career in the second set and kept everything under control in the third to build the advantage. There were no break chances in the fourth set, and the defending champion claimed it in the tie break to seal the deal and lift the seventh Wimbledon trophy.

“Novak Djokovic wants to win 30 Major titles; he will play for the next five years, and he can achieve that. Even before I became Nole’s coach, I said that he and Nadal would win more Major titles than Roger Federer. If they are healthy, there are no limits for them. I think they will win more Major titles in the future,” Goran Ivanisevic said.
