Doubles specialist Matej Sabanov revealed how world number one Novak Djokovic helped him and his brother strengthen their mental strength on cncha. The twins Matej and Ivan Sabanov are two specialist doubles tennis players, who played under the Croatian flag before deciding, last November, to change their nationality. The Sabanov brothers train often in Serbia and Djokovic’s generosity and kindness prompted them to change their nationality. “Everyone knows how committed Novak is to toughness. In that sense, it has helped us, we are working on some things off the court and I think this has brought us progress: meditation, proper nutrition and a healthy life in general, all of this is important for professional sports”, said Matej at Sport Klub. The twins explained his decision and told how valuable Nole was to his maturation. “Novak has given us everything. He gave us the best possible conditions. Novak Djokovic’s support is something that cannot be described in words. He has always been our role model and the person we look up to throughout our careers. His advice is extremely valuable to our careers and we are honored to have the opportunity to learn from a tennis player like this. We trained with him, he gave us the best possible conditions and that is what we really needed,” Matej explained last month. The Sabanov brothers only play doubles and claimed their first ATP title in April in Belgrade. According to Croatian sources, the two brothers have decided to change their nationality to have the opportunity to play doubles in the Davis Cup for Serbia, as they would not take place in Croatia due to the presence of great specialty players such as Ante Pavić, Nikola Mektić, Ivan Dodig, etc.
Djokovic is a history-maker in Melbourne
In a recent interview with L’Equipe, Novak Djokovic praised Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev for staying “authentic” and not pretending to be “perfect.” “I don’t like people who pretend to be perfect on and off the court; perfection doesn’t exist,” Djokovic said. The World No. 1 highlighted the fact that Medvedev and Zverev go to great lengths to make amends for their errors, and stressed that he has a great relationship with both players. “That’s why I love Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev. They are authentic, they admit their mistakes and they do everything to make up for it,” Djokovic said. “We have a great friendship.” The entire tennis world has been waiting to see whether Novak Djokovic will play in the 2022 Australian Open. In fact, the World No. 1 has had uncertainty surrounding his Australian Open hopes for months now.
