‘Novak Djokovic is the US Open favorite, but I can challenge him,’ says Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev has been one of the most productive players on hard courts in the last two years and the one who can challenge Novak Djokovic at the upcoming US Open! The Russian claimed the title in Toronto last week and will try to repeat that in Cincinnati this week, playing on a high level to advance into the semis. On Friday, the Russian destroyed Pablo Carreno Busta in the quarters, losing six points behind the initial shot and producing five breaks to avenge the Olympic Games defeat. Speaking about Djokovic, Medvedev praised the Serb and named him as the US Open top favorite.

Novak will chase the calendar Grand Slam in New York, and Medvedev does not expect him to crack under pressure, highlighting Novak’s incredible mental strength and abilities to play at his best when it matters the most. Daniil has lost two Major finals so far, and he knows it would be another chance for him if he reaches the Novak clash in New York, as they can not meet before the title clash. The Russian is confident about his abilities when he plays on the highest level, standing as one of the favorites at the US Open and wishing to challenge Djokovic for the trophy.

Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic are the US Open favorites.

“Definitely, Novak is going to be the highest contender at the US Open. He’s winning almost all Majors right now, reaching the number of 20 and gathering experience and the highest level when it matters the most. He should feel the pressure in New York, but I think he likes it, as he does not crack like others. If I meet Novak in New York, it will be a positive fact, as it means we are in the final. I’m going to try to do my best. If I manage to keep the level I’m playing at right now, I have good chances to go far. One day you might feel not as good as usual. You’re going to get an opponent who is going to play the best match of his life. You can have tough quarters and someone ranked between 5th and 8th. Still, they can lose early, or it can be someone you like to play against. It’s all about small details. I just want to play well. When I play well in New York, I can go deep, and of course, I want to win the title, like every other tournament I play,” Daniil Medvedev said.
