Matteo Berrettini: Wimbledon 2023 is a goal”

Matteo Berrettini talked exclusively to Italian show RaiDue, and he recounted his impressions, a few days before the Australian Open 2023. The Italian number one will face the British Andy Murray in the first round and it will be quite a strong start for him.

Here are the words of the Italian athlete: “First of all, I wish you a lot of health which unfortunately was lacking in 2022, and obviously the results that never hurt. My mother’s pendant? It’s a lucky charm and thus bring my family with me.

Cry? When I was little I cried on the court, then I cried with joy but I think this is important, emotions count in tennis. Breakpoints? It was strange to see me again, but exciting. Few social networks? I think sometimes it’s good to detach from these realities and live the real life. Yes, I think it’s good.”

Berrettini and the Wimbledon dream

The Italian tennis player is the only one to have reached the Wimbledon final in history and has only been defeated by a stratospheric athlete like Novak Djokovic.

Last year there was great expectation for him but Matteo tested positive for Covid and thus missed the tournament. Speaking about the London tournament, the tennis player continued: “Wimbledon? Unfortunately bad luck took Wimbledon away from me, but this year it’s one of my main goals, you go there to win and I have high expectations. But now my head is in Melbourne and I’m just thinking about playing.”

The schedule starts in a complicated way for Berrettini at the Australian Open with Matteo beating Andy Murray in the first round and probably the home tennis idol Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round.

Subsequently, theItalian will not have a very tough calendar and indeed everyone dreams of the semifinal against the Serbian champion Novak Djokovic, perhaps a revenge of that Wimbledon 2021. Eyes, however, on a possible second round with an Italian derby, not impossible in the event of a victory for Matteo and Fabio Fognini on Kokkinakis. The Australian Open is upon us and Matteo Berrettini is ready.
