Macci: “Alcaraz will have a better career than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic”

Coach Rick Macci said Carlos Alcaraz will become the greatest player of all time, as he believes the Spaniard is like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andre Agassi all rolled into one.

Alcaraz, who turned 19 year-old in May, has won two Masters 1000s this year and occupies the sixth position in the ATP rankings. The young Murcian star is regarded as the future face of tennis once the Big Three have ended their career and it has been widely predicted that he will win more Grand Slams and become world number 1.

Macci, who was Serena and Venus Williams’ childhood coach, goes even further and thinks Alcaraz could have an even bigger career than Federer, Djokovic and Nadal.

Macci exlained: “I did a lot of things even two years ago and I started talking about his ability when I saw him play for the first time, very unique. And of course I did a lot of interviews and a lot of articles about his abilities.

He is a generational player. People will have to understand this. In my opinion, he is Agassi, Djokovic, Federer, Nadal, all wrapped up in one. I know it sounds crazy, but barring injuries, he will become the greatest player of all time.”

Macci: “Alcaraz was born to do this”

After winning the Masters titles in Miami and Madrid, Carlos Alcaraz was hoping to win his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. Unfortunately, however, the Spaniard suffered a defeat in the quarter-finals of the French Open to Alexander Zverev, before losing to Italian Jannik Sinner in the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

Macci added: “And I know it’s absurd to talk like that when someone has just turned 19 and hasn’t won a Grand Slam yet. I saw him in Sampras, I saw him in Federer, I saw him in Nadal.

I haven’t seen him in Djokovic, who came a little later, but he has the most complete game. He was born to do this. He is the fastest I’ve ever picked up a tennis racket.

When you can do this, you can play offense and defense even when you are nervous. He has a drop shot that comes from space, but from the ground, he is very authoritative, he has a high level technique. And as I said, he was born to do this and he has humility.”
