Canadian tennis star Leylah Fernandez has admitted that she is unsure of how will her schedule look for the rest of the 2021 season.
Fernandez, who ended runner-up to Emma Raducanu in the US Open final, returned to action at the Indian Wells Masters.
Fernandez made the round-of-16 at the Indian Wells Masters, before falling short in three sets to home favorite Shelby Rogers.
What is sure is that Fernandez will represent Canada at the Billie Jean Cup in Budapest from November 1-6.
However, it remains to be seen whether Fernandez will play any events before or after.
“Well, up to now there’s nothing going on in my plans,” Fernandez said, per Tennishead. “We were going to have a meeting actually later tonight to see what I’m going to do. Representing Canada is an honour. We’ll see. We’ll see what’s to come next.
“We’re going to have a meeting later tonight or tomorrow to see what we feel, what my coaches have seen, and we’ll see what’s to come.”
Fernandez grateful for the year she is having
Fernandez was ranked at No. 73 in the world at the moment of making the US Open final.
Fernandez is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 28 in the world and she is set to reach a new career-high ranking of No. 27 on Monday.
“I’m very grateful for what has happened this year, especially this past month,” Fernandez added.
“I’ve been working very hard the past couple of years trying to get used to the WTA Tour, getting the experience, getting the matches in. Every time I get on the practice court I try to find a way to improve something. I’m glad that the past month it’s been going well for me.
“I’m not that surprised the results have been coming in. But now it’s time to regroup, forget about the past and get ready for the next tournament.”
