World No. 21 Gael Monfils will play an exhibition match in Tenerife, per ESPN Argentina.
Monfils, a former world No. 6, is preparing for the 2022 season in Tenerife and he plans to play an exhibition match at Real Club Nautico de Tenerife.
However, Monfils’ opponent for the match hasn’t been revealed.
10 days ago, Monfils said he was devastated after the death of renowned designer Virgil Abloh.
“I’m so devastated by the news and still can’t believe it,” Monfils admitted in a Twitter post.
“I had the privilege to talk with you during those years and you were a true inspiration for me. Only few months ago you gave us the honor to design Elina wedding dress. I’m forever grateful for our connection.”
Monfils’ season came to an end on an unfortunate way
Monfils made the Paris Masters round-of-16 before he was forced to give a walkover to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
“I’m frustrated, because once again, I love playing against the top players, and it’s always a good experience to play against Novak to see at what level you are,” Monfils said.
“Honestly, I lost 17 times against him. I had nothing to lose, so I had everything to win.
“Yesterday the ultrasound was not great. This morning we did another ultrasound, it was not fantastic either… horrible frustration, because all of my family, my relatives are here.
“It would have been fantastic, but I hope I will have the possibility to play him again and to bother him or even beat him.”
Monfils played some of his best tennis late in the season as he made the Metz semifinal ajd finished runner-up in Sofia.
“I’m feeling well. I feel that my game goes in the right direction,” Monfils said. “I’m very happy I was able to bounce back in the second part of the season. Now I have a lot of work to do both physically in terms of tennis and also mentally to be able to be ready for the next season.”
