Daniil Medvedev tips Carlos Alcaraz to make top-10

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev routed Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets at Wimbledon but later spoke extremely highly of the rising Spanish star.

Medvedev, seeded at No. 2, handed Alcaraz a 6-4 6-1 6-2 loss to progress into the Wimbledon third round for the third time in his career.

“The faster you go at a Grand Slam the better, but Carlos is an amazing player,” Medvedev said in his on-court interview.. “I was actually even surprised in a way with the first set. Grass is definitely not his best surface, but he was giving it all there. Of course [in the] second and third sets, maybe the gap was too high. But I’m sure he’s going to be sooner or later in the Top 10 and maybe even higher.”

Medvedev easily handled Alcaraz

Medvedev made a perfect start to the match, having won the opening three games of the match.

Medvedev failed to serve out for the opener in the ninth game but broke Alcaraz in the 10th game to still win the opener.

Medvedev got broken in the second set as well but claimed three breaks to easily win the set and take a two-set lead.

In the third set, Medvedev claimed two breaks and dropped no service games to book a straight-set win.

“I love grass,” Medvedev said. “Wimbledon is always going to be special for me.”

Medvedev has never made it past the third round at Wimbledon.

He will be aiming to do so when he meets either Marin Cilic or Benjamin Bonzi.

“In Russia we say the third one is the lucky one, so hopefully that will work,” Medvedev said, cracking a laugh. “But if not, I know that I might be playing Marin… that could be a great matchup for the third round, so not an easy game. But I just need to show my best tennis and like this I’m going to have chances to win the game.”
