Daniil Medvedev jokingly shares advice to Iga Swiatek ahead of WTA Finals debut

World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev has advised world No. 11 Iga Swiatek to keep focus all the time during her WTA Finals debut.

Medvedev, 25, made his Nitto ATP Finals debut in 2019.

In his second match at the tournament, Medvedev was up 5-1 in the third set against Rafael Nadal and even had a match point but still failed to seal the win.

In general, Medvedev didn’t have a great debut at the Nitto ATP Finals as he finished the group with a 0-3 record.

“Keep focused, if you’re 5-1 up, even in the 3rd set, even if you have match point, just keep focused, that’s the main advice. Try to finish the match, don’t talk to your team, don’t show emotions”Face with tears of joy,” Medvedev advised Swiatek, per Reem Abulleil.

Swiatek says playing the WTA Finals is something special

Swiatek performed much better in the first half of the season but still managed to clinch a spot at the WTA Finals.

“But playing the WTA Finals, really, it’s something special,” Swiatek said recently.

“You know, I never actually thought about that before because usually I was just focusing on playing good at Grand Slams. But right now, when we’re actually heading to the end of the Race and we are getting closer to this tournament, I’m just getting excited.

So on one side, I would really like to qualify, and it’s really exciting for me. But on the other side, I know that the most important thing is to just stay focused and keep doing the same thing I did during the whole season because sometimes when you just don’t think about what may come, it’s easier to play and work.

“Still, I know that even if this tournament is not going to go well I still have some chances to get more points. I’m just really happy that I still have power. I don’t have any injury. Because it’s the end of the season, many players are coping with that.”
