Coach Frederic Fontang absolutely loves working with Felix Auger-Aliassime as he insists the 21-year-old Canadian is so mature and they can talk about various topics.
Auger-Aliassime is one of the most talented players on the Tour and he is also known for his calm demeanor and hard-working approach to the game.
During his interview with Tennis Actu, Fontang was asked if it was a pleasure for him to work with such a calm and mature player.
“Absolutely, you said it. What is talent? There are plenty of definitions. With Felix, his quality is to be calm and to work every day. For a coach of my age, it’s nice to be able to talk to a young person like that, discuss philosophy, politics, geopolitics,” Fontang said.
Auger-Aliassime thrilled to have Toni Nadal
Fontang was asked about Nadal and said Uncle Toni brought the experience and knowledge to Auger-Aliassime’s team.
Auger-Aliassime added Rafael Nadal’s former coach earlier this year.
“Yeah, it was good I mean. Through conversations, through work on court, I think I’ve been able to just learn and just kind of take a lot of information from Toni and then cross it and see what I can take from that, learn from that. So just him being there, being present is a huge source of motivation and more than anything, a source of confidence and trust,” Auger-Aliassime said.
Auger-Aliassime enjoyed a strong season and he credited Nadal for bringing confidence to the team.
Auger-Aliassime made his maiden Grand Slam at the US Open and also broke into the top-10 for the first time in his career.
“I think to summarize what Toni has brought this year, then he’s brought a lot of confidence in the team, that we’re on the right track, he’s brought confidence that making the semifinals of Grand Slams are challenging but it’s something that’s doable, something of a normality than something that’s extraordinary. He’s just brought a lot of confidence to myself and my team,” Auger-Aliassime added.
