Chris Evert reveals what impresses her about Ashleigh Barty

Former world No. 1 Chris Evert is a big Ashleigh Barty admirer as she absolutely loves the way she plays on the court, as well as demeanor and her personality.

Barty, ranked at No. 1 in the world, was in action on Saturday as she saw off world No. 9 Iga Swiatek 6-2 6-4 to reach the Adelaide final.

After the match, Evert took to Twitter to say a few nice words about Barty.

“This is what impresses me about @ashbarty … Her serve, her forehand, her agility, and especially the fact she shakes the umpire’s hand after every match,” Evert tweeted.

Barty cruised past Swiatek

Barty broke Swiatek twice in the first set, once in the second set, and dropped no service games in the match to book a straight-set win.

“Today I felt like I was probably able to look after my service games really well,” Barty said after the win, per the WTA website. “I felt like on Iga’s service games I was able to get into most of them, which is important when you’re playing someone who can dominate with that first ball and first strike. I felt like I was able to build pressure over time, making her play a lot of balls on her service games, not giving her too many cheapies.

“I think all in all I was able to stay in most games. I didn’t get blown away with too many runs of two, three, four points in a row, which was a nice improvement from the last couple matches.”

Barty, who captured her first Adelaide title in 2020, is now set to battle Elena Rybakina for her second Adelaide title.

“It is exciting to be able to play well here in Australia,” Barty said. “This is where I want to play my best tennis. I want to give myself an opportunity to play for titles in Australia. It’s something really exciting to start the year off as an Aussie player in front of our home fans.”
