Rune, 19, is now a Masters champion and a top-10 player.

Wozniacki congratulated Rune on beating Djokovic for the Paris title

Wozniacki, who retired from pro tennis after the 2020 Australian Open, was a Grand Slam champion and the top-ranked player in the world.

Now, the Danish tennis community is hoping that Rune will be the next Grand Slam champion and world No 1 from their country.

“Yeah, I hope it’s going to change. It already changed a little bit since I went into the top 30. There is more focus on tennis in Denmark in general. We obviously had Wozniacki, but I’m kind of the first male player on the tour. It’s great. You know, more focus on Danish tennis is great. It’s good to hear the young kids can start playing more, going to more tournaments, and traveling more. Just I want to say to them: Just keep believing in yourself. They can always ask me for some advice if they want,” Rune explained.

En route to winning Paris, Rune had everything but an easy path.

In the first round, Rune saved three match points to beat three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka.

After beating Wawrinka, Rune also clinched very notable wins over Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

By winning Paris, Rune also secured a spot as the first alternate at the ATP Finals.

On Sunday, Rune confirmed that he is planning to go to Turin and be an alternate there.
