Billie Jean King shares advice to Emma Raducanu

WTA founder Billie Jean King has advised Emma Raducanu to start seeing a psychotherapist and to surround herself only with the people she trusts.

Raducanu, 19, quickly went from a promising teenager to a tennis superstar after stunningly winning the 2021 US Open as a qualifier.

Since then, Raducanu has been regularly in the headlines as there is a lot of attention on every move the 19-year-old Briton makes.

“Now I think that she needs to have space and time and talk to people she trusts. I would hope she has a psychotherapist, I think they’re very helpful in hearing yourself. I’ve been going forever. It really helped my life,” King told Reuters.

King advises Raducanu to surround herself with the people she trusts

“I hope she gets people she can trust, who have no agenda. She needs to get away from people who have agendas, like ‘I wanna coach you, I wanna do this’ forget that. She needs to be herself and she’s very bright, actually very level-headed. I’m really impressed with her as a human being,” King added.

Raducanu’s frequent coaching changes have been often a topic of discussion this year.

After splitting with two coaches last year, Raducanu added Torben Beltz to her coaching staff prior to the 2022 season.

In April, Raducanu decided to split with Beltz.

After taking some time to carefully consider her next move, Raducanu added Dmitry Tursunov on a trial basis just before the North American hard court swing.

Raducanu was seemingly happy with Tursunov as her coach but the Russian decided to end their partnership last month.

With Tursunov departing, Raducanu is again without a coach.

Meanwhile, Raducanu’s 2022 season is over.

A week ago, Raducanu withdrew from the Billie Jean King Cup Finals due to a wrist injury.

Now, Raducanu’s focus is on making sure she gets fully healthy ahead of the 2023 season.
