2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova named Rafael Nadal as her favorite tennis player.
Krejcikova, a former world No 2, held a Q&A session on Instagram with her fans.
One fan wanted to know who Krejcikova’s favorite player was.
“I’d say Rafael Nadal,” Krejcikova responded to the question on her Instagram Story.
Krejcikova suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the WTA Finals
On Monday, Krejcikova and fellow Czech Katerina Siniakova suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the doubles final at the WTA Final.
In Fort Worth, Texas, Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens edged out Krejcikova and Siniakova 6-2 4-6 11-9.
After winning the second set, Krejcikova and Siniakova had a comfortable 7-2 lead in the match tie-break.
Then they suffered a stunning collapse as Kudermetova and Mertens overturned the deficit and clinched the title.
“In that tiebreak when it was 2-7, I said to Elise that we need to believe, we need to stay positive, and it doesn’t matter what happens, we keep working,” Kudermetova said after the final.
After suffering a devastating defeat in the WTA Finals doubles final, Krejcikova paid a tribute to tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who was in attendance.
“I mean, for me, a very special person, Martina, that is here. I just want to thank you that you are here and that you are still supporting tennis. I’m really happy that you still love tennis. You give us a lot of support and I have to say that I’m really happy that I know you and was able to meet you in person and I feel I’m really lucky,” Krejcikova told Navratilova.
In late 2022, Krejcikova captured back-to-back singles titles in Ostrava and Tallinn – those were her two lone singles titles in singles.
In doubles, Krejcikova enjoyed far more success as she and Siniakova won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open.
