Augusta, pharaonic works for the teeing area

Pharaonic works were started from the first days which followed the victory of Scottie Scheffler in Augusta last April. The main change concerns the creation of a new teeing area for par 5 of hole number 13.

On the Eureka Earth twitter account, which regularly publishes photos of the Augusta National route seen from the sky, it is possible to follow the developments in progress almost daily. Whether it’s the mini course reserved for the par 3 competition, the creation of a new area for spectators and of course the very likely follow-up to the new start of 13, the par 5 of the Amen Corner.

Augusta, works

On this new photo published this week, we can clearly see the area that has been cleared to accommodate the new starting area set back about 30 meters.

From this position, it will be almost impossible to play directly above “Rae Creek” and the trees that border the small stream running along the left of the fairway to the green. To shorten the hole, you will have to succeed in turning the ball from right to left. On the other hand, the use of wood 3 to avoid going into the pine forest located opposite the tee risks leaving a much longer shot in the direction of the green.

The Augusta National Golf Club, located in the North American city of Augusta, Georgia, is one of the most prestigious and exclusive golf clubs in the world.

Founded by golfer Bobby Jones, and designed by Alister MacKenzie on the site of a former indigo plantation, the club opened in January 1933.

Since 1934 it has hosted the annual event The Masters, or better known as the Augusta Masters, one of the most important events on the men’s individual calendar for golf professionals: it is one of the four majors.

The winner of each edition of the Augusta Masters can wear a characteristic green jacket that, among many other figures in the history of golf, has been worn by the Spanish Severiano Ballesteros and José María Olazábal, the Argentine Ángel Cabrera and the Spanish Sergio García, the last winner of the year 2017.
