ATP Geneva 2021: Casper Ruud vs Shapovalov’s HIGHLIGHTS

At the Geneva Open 2021, Casper Ruud, after the tournament he won in Buenos Aires in 2020, is back to triumph on clay-courts. The Norwegian defeated Denis Shapovalov in two sets. Neither player managed to strike back in the first set. Before the set reached the tie-break, Shapovalov was only able to win four points on his opponent’s serve; Ruud did slightly better, because he took home seven points by points.

The first to show his emotions in the tie-break was the Canadian, who under 2-3 missed a simple volley and sent a comfortable forehand over the baseline. It was then Ruud’s turn to leave room for fears: the Norwegian literally threw four set points to the winds, only to close the set at 8-6 thanks also to the backhand volley sent under the net by his opponent.

It was the fifth game to definitively shift the balance in the second set of the challenge and to record the first break points of the match. Ruud missed four answers in the four chances Shapovalov gave him in return, but he still operated the break thanks to the wrong backhand volley from the Canadian, who once again misses a decisive shot at the net. deservedly won the Swiss event. Final result: 7-6 (6) 6-4.
