Andy Murray: “In the coming months I want to play against the best!”

Busy with the family for the birth of his fourth child, the former world number one, the Scot Andy Murray, is ready to come back to the court, where he will once again seek that much sought-after ascent in recent years.

A last desperate attempt to get back really competitive and treat himself to those emotions that have enveloped him for years and that have recently given way to suffering and despair, so much so as to induce him to retire first announced and then postponed.

The fire still burns inside, this is certain, however the career of a sportsman cannot live only on motivation, but he must deal with his body, with his resistance to the stress that competitions require.

Andy knows this well and that is why 2021 could represent a turning point for him, we will see if towards a new relaunch or a new role. In the meantime, current events will lead him to play the Miami Open thanks to the wild card kindly offered by the organization, which will allow the three-time slam champion to test his conditions again on a field and in a city he knows very well.

The American tournament, which will take place from 24 March to 4 April, has been won twice by Murray, which is why reliving those feelings of past glory could give the British champion new life to fight and forget the complicated start of the year, when was forced to miss the Australian trip due to the coronavirus and was subsequently defeated in the second round in Rotterdam after taking his first victory in the circuit since September 2020.

The Brit will then fly to Florida in a few days to acclimatize and get used to the playing conditions that, as mentioned, he has often found in his career, especially when he was coached by Ivan Lendl, who is also often from home in Miami.

In an interview with, the Scot wanted to tell what are the main short-term goals that he and his team have set for themselves:

Here are Murray’s words

“Miami is a city that I love, I have spent a lot of time there in the last 15 years, I feel comfortable. But in the coming months I want to play games, especially against the best players, work on my game and level up. I want to start playing a sport that I love so much again. I am really happy to be back on tour and to compete.

It will just take me some time to find some rhythm and regain my confidence. But every game is progress and I try to learn something more every time,” said Andy Murray.
