Andrea Rota had to wait over two years to be able to defend the title of champion among the masters, won at Molinetto in May 2019. Then a pandemic 2020 and no titles for the Italian PGA professionals, with the return to racing only last October during a beautiful autumn party in Udine, on the route of the Villaverde Hotel & Resort. And it is precisely here that the thread of the most important tournaments is resumed and the first is assigned seasonal title, The Teachers number 23. Today the pros with teacher qualifications are lined up in a team with a student as tradition dictates: he makes four balls the best and two rounds to play, with individual ranking and couple prizes. Up for grabs 20 thousand euros.
Andrea Rota, The Teachers
For the amateurs it will be a long lesson on the pitch with their teacher, but also an opportunity to fine-tune the swing and materials. In fact, the event opened on Monday with a technological focus in the club’s driving range, for a journey through swing data (analyzed by Trackman’s precision radars) and to put the right sticks in the bag with Callaway, Cobra, Odyssey and Wilson. In short, it will be a full immersion to play, discover and share in a mix of individual competition and team play.
The Villaverde Hotel & Resort project is by the entrepreneur Gabriele Lualdi, who started in 2013 with the relaunch of the golf course. His high-level competition outfit took shape thanks to the suggestions of the most titled players on the tour (since 2016 it has hosted four editions of the Italian Senior Open, a stage of the European category circuit). The resort, which overlooks the driving range, then showed its strong vocation for wellness.
His story begins 24 years ago in Is Molas, Sardinia, and Pietro Molteni’s is the first name to be engraved on the race trophy. Five editions on the same track and then, over the years, four in Bogogno (No), three at San Domenico (Br), two at Des Iles Borromées (Vb), in Grado (Go), at Pevero (Ot) and at Molinetto ( Me); once it was also played in Sanremo (Im) and Margara (Al).
Zeke Martinez won most of all (three titles), but Giuseppe Calì, Federico Elli, Mauro Bianco, Emanuele Bolognesi also succeeded in the double. In the roll of honor, among others, Costantino Rocca, Emanuele Canonica and Michele Reale.
