Adelaide International 2: Led by Coco Gauff, Americans make their way into QF

Ana Konjuh posted the lone upset of the day at the Adelaide International 2. The Croatian ousted sixth seed Marketa Vondrousova in the second round on Thursday, coming from a set down to do so. Konjuh needed two hours and 21 minutes to win 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(3).

Konjuh will play third seed Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals. The American, seeded third in the draw, came through a three-set roller coaster of her own against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk. Gauff won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 in an hour and 54 minutes. This is Gauff’s first quarter-final in 2022 after having previously fallen in the pre-quarters of the Adelaide International 1 at the hands of eventual champion, Ashleigh Barty.

Fourth seed Tamara Zidansek also joined Gauff in the quarter-finals. The Slovenian took just 64 minutes to wrap up a win over Maddison Inglis 6-2, 6-1 in their round-of-16 match. Zidansek won 85% of her first-serve points to the Australian’s 54% and almost 77% of her second-serve points to Inglis’ 33%. Of the 11 chances she had to break Inglis’ serve, Zidansek converted five while facing no break points herself.
