The latest boost to the squad of Unicaja comes in the form of Tyson Carter.

Carter, 24, arrives on loan from Zenit for the 2022-23 season, the team announced Thursday. The Mississippi State product will debut in Spain’s Liga Endesa and return to the Basketball Champions League. After turning pro in Greece as a member of Lavrio Megabolt in 2020, he switched to the team located in Saint Petersburg last December.

Per the press release: “Unicaja has reached an agreement to incorporate the American point guard Tyson Carter (24 years old, 1.93 meters) for next season. The player arrives on loan from the Russian Zenit Saint Petersburg and has experience in the Basketball Champions League (BCL) after having played for the Greek team Lavrio Megabolt.”

Looking into the 2022-23 BCL season, Unicaja will host one of the four Qualification groups aiming to clinch a berth in the Regular Season. Deciding whether the bid is successful is taking on the winner of the clash between Heroes Den Bosch and Siauliai and a potential win setting up a game versus Karhu or Egis Kormend or Levicki Patrioti. A couple of wins would send Unicaja into Group G alongside Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari, JDA Dijon, and PAOK mateco.

Busy earlier in the offseason, the team based in Malaga secured the services of Nihad Djedovic, Melvin Ejim, Tyler Kalinoski, David Kravish, Augusto Lima, Dylan Osetkowski, Kendrick Perry, and Will Thomas. And has the looks of a mighty bid to reach the Champions League Regular Season.

Meanwhile, defending BCL champion Lenovo Tenerife signed 19-year-old Konstantin Kostadinov to a three-year contract and sent him on loan to Zunder Palencia for the 2022-23 season. The Bulgarian forward is a youth product of Real Madrid.
