Six teams among Kyrie Irving’s preferred destinations if he leaves Nets

The Brooklyn Nets-Kyrie Irving saga is going to be a long one and with many episodes until it’s resolved in one way or another. For now, it seems that the seven-time All-Star guard has several teams on his agenda in case he doesn’t reach a deal with his current organization.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Irving has the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers, the New York Knicks, the Miami Heat, the Dallas Mavericks and the Philadelphia 76ers on a list of potential destinations if he leaves Brooklyn.

These six clubs don’t have the necessary cap space to accommodate Irving. In case there’s genuine interest for him, Irving can sign a new contract with a lower salary with the Nets and then be moved to a team with a sign-and-trade deal.

In May, Nets general manager Sean Marks mentioned that Irving “has some decisions to make on his own,” and that the team is “looking for guys that want to come in here and be part of something bigger than themselves, play selfless, play team basketball and be available.” Irving didn’t play in the Nets’ home games until late March since the city of New York didn’t allow unvaccinated athletes in indoor arenas.
