Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns set a rather high bar for him and his teammates ahead of the upcoming season by declaring that nothing except a championship ring will be satisfying.
Especially considering the acquisition of three-time All-Star and DPOY Rudy Gobert.
“It’s go time. The [Rudy Gobert] trade happens. There’s no more time. There are no more excuses. We’ve got to get it done now. It’s championship now or bust. Got to go out there and get the job done,” Towns said during the press conference in light of the four-year supermax (224 million) contract extension he signed with the Timberwolves. He will earn
“I expect a lot of winning for sure. I’m not up here just blowing smoke. I really want to try and bring a championship to Minnesota. I think that Rudy adds a huge component to that. He’s going to be a massive part of us being a championship team,” Towns also mentioned regarding Gobert’s arrival.
The Timberwolves have now perhaps the most formidable frontline duo in the NBA with Towns and Gobert pairing up and creating a joint force that is powerful on both ends of the floor. “My job is to help him as much as he helps me. His strengths are my weaknesses and his weaknesses are my strengths.”
Towns averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 2021-22.
