Joel Embiid will not be able to compete in the upcoming Eurobasket with France, mainly due to his injury as the French national team general manager Boris Diaw explained recently. while he is also lacking a FIBA license.
However, it’s more than likely for him to be able to make his debut with France in the 2023 World Cup.
While speaking for the upcoming preparation game which will be played on Sunday in Rouen against the Netherlands, French national team coach Vincent Collet was asked for the first time about the issue and he confirmed that he will not hesitate to add Embiid to his roster.
As he said: “My position is that when he is fully selectable, after settling the bureaucratic issue and in terms of physical condition (ed. note: he had thumb surgery this summer), I don’t see why I wouldn’t select him. We have always, as much as possible, taken the best. I consider him to be in this category.”
Per FIBA rules each national team can add a naturalized player in the roster. Embiid falls into his category.
