In late September, Greek Basketball Federation President Vangelis Liolios confirmed his choice for the national team bench, and it was none other than CSKA Moscow head coach Dimitris Itoudis.
While there’s still nothing concrete in the talks between Itoudis, the Federation and CSKA Moscow, the Greek coach talked about Liolios’ offer in a recent interview with BasketInside’s Matteo Andreani.
“I’m taking the opportunity to say that I’m honored and proud that the new president of Greek Federation is thinking to me. But I have to say that right now we’re talking and it’s not only a decision by my side. It’s a decision that has also to involve a great club and a great president. We’re now in talks to find a solution”, stated Itoudis.
“I would like to be the new head coach of Greece but we need to find the way. I need to know the calendar and all the aspects. Let’s see and how things will go”
Itoudis further revealed that he has received interest from other federations as well, ahead of the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket and the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
“I had several offers from national teams, for example, Slovenia, and I would like to say thank you to each one who thinks of me”, he mentioned.
For the time being, Stefanos Dedas is the candidate to lead the Greek NT during the FIBA qualifiers windows in November.
